A summer of shootings: gun crime on the rise in the UK?

I don't know what has been happening this summer, but unstable people are getting hold of weapons and causing carnage. First it was the Cumbria shootings by a disgruntled taxi driver, then there was Raoul Moat who shot his ex and her new boyfriend, the latter of whom died, plus a policeman; today there has been a man shooting his partner and then committing suicide.

It is getting like the Bronx and I for one am alarmed.
